EPDM is a copolymer synthesized from ethylene and propylene as basic monomers. Although it has excellent performance, it can only be vulcanized with organic peroxides and cannot be vulcanized with sulfur, which limits its use. EPDM is a copolymer obtained by copolymerizing ethylene and propylene monomers in a solution under the initiation of a catalyst and adding a small amount of non-conjugated diene monomers. The third monomer introduced is divided into: 1.4-ethylenediene (HD), dicyclopentadiene (DCPD), ethylidene borane (ENB).

Due to the high vulcanization efficiency and fast vulcanization speed of ENB type EPDM rubber, it has become the main variety of EPDM rubber. EPDM rubber not only maintains the excellent performance of the original EPDM rubber, but also introduces a third monomer containing unsaturated double bonds, which can be vulcanized with peroxide and sulfur, making EPDM rubber widely used in automobiles, wires, cables, buildings and waterproof products.

Basic characteristics of EPDM rubber:

① Low relative density.

② Ozone resistance, heat resistance and chemical stabilizer resistance (better than chloroprene rubber).

③ Good low temperature resistance and good electrical insulation performance.

④ Small compression deformation.

EPDM sealing strips have good ozone resistance, heat resistance, weather resistance and low temperature flexibility, and can be used in ozone resistance, weather resistance and UV resistance occasions, but based on their own structural characteristics, their flame retardancy, oil resistance and adhesion are poor. This type of rubber has a main chain saturated structure and can be blended to complement each other in terms of performance.
